The first piece of
Latin to be spoken (and mispronounced) on
Knightmare. Although used in ancient times to describe Roman goddesses - 'alma' means kind or nourishing, 'mater' means mother - the term is used nowadays to refer to a person's former place of higher learning, or sometimes the anthem of that place.
Folly the jester made use of the phrase in Series 1:
"Folly is my name and foolishness my nature,
Confusion is my character and fun my alma mater."
Mater is normally pronounced "mar-ter", though Folly pronounced it "may-ter" in order to contrive a rhyming couplet.
